RESUME
Sam Thompson
My intent is to work in a firm that balances the health of the environment with the social stability of the neighborhood and people that will use the site. These things are inherently tied to each other; people learn, heal and grow with their closeness to nature; and with design, we can help the environment do the same. We can't live in a vacuum, and we have to make a concerted effort to integrate our lifestyles within our natural environment.
Professional Info
I am a 2017 graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s in Landscape and Architecture with a minor in Sociology. My interest in the social dynamics and cultural context of the world and locations I have lived has always been at the root of my interest in landscape architecture. I have been working towards my PLA license for the last 5 years with Daniel S. Natchez and Associates and volunteering as a graphic designer for local political campaigns.

Work Experience

Project Manager - Daniel S. Natchez and Associates Inc. - DSN&A
2017 - present
I have been a Project Manager with DSN&A for 4 years as part of the small team to design and develop municipal, commercial and residential projects throughout Eastern New York State, Connecticut, and International projects. For the past 2.5 years, I have been the sole member of the team with modern AutoCAD experience, Sketch-up, Photoshop, Indesign, and taught myself HydroCAD. During my time with this firm, I have redesigned the company website and several official promotional materials.
Design Intern - ISU Community Visioning Program
2016-2017
Community Visioning is a partnership with ISU and Iowa DOT as a student during my last two years of college. With Community Visioning, I worked with a dozen communities through focus groups to develop a town-wide analysis of their infrastructure and amenities. The program is particularly focused on improving access and transportation throughout the community, with its partnership with IDOT, though they look to develop a framework plan for future municipal-funded improvements.

Design Intern - Jeffery L. Bruce and Company
Spring and Summer 2016
I worked with Jeffery L. Bruce and Company when they started their Des Monies branch, and it was my first introduction to Community Visioning. However, I spent my time spilt between working on their projects associated with Community Visioning and their other projects throughout Iowa and Midwest. I worked with two Iowa towns all the way through Visioning process and worked with the Steering Committee to develop their framework plan.
